Crafts Classes
Weaving

The work depends on the individual skills and abilities of those attending the course. The group comprises of maximum 7 users. The course takes place once a week and each session is 2 hours long. Most of the pupils master basket weaving within a few months. Others, who are more advanced, are able to complete more complex pieces such as cages or bells after some extra training.
The most usual method used is weaving using a wooden pad with holes drilled through. The holes are used for insertion of stiff supporting rods which are then woven around by two slimmer rods. In the more advanced cases, the number of rods increases to four. The other procedure is more complicated: the weaver produces the bottom of the basket and then goes on all the way to the end. Sometimes, in order to spice up the decoration of the piece, the weavers add wooden or hand-made beads.
